Ok, come on now and admit it, you’re familiar with this epic story.  You may not have attended Sunday School as a child, but you know about David and Goliath.  It’s like the story of Noah and the Ark, everyone has heard the story at some point.

David and Goliath is one of those timeless stories we can all relate with because all of us have faced our Goliaths, whether it be a bully at school, some sort of tragedy, or overwhelming and insurmountable obstacles or circumstances in the pursuit of a dream.  We’ve all had to face down Goliath at some point in our life and, probably more often than not, we did it alone because nobody else believed it could be done.  Many times those around us all stayed their distance, watching and listening to see what we would do.  So, just as David did with God’s help, we had to slay the Giant.  Each of our giant slayings inspired us forward in life, seeking after bigger giants which has helped mold us into who we are today.

Well, there’s a David and Goliath story being lived out by some high school girls, including my twin granddaughters, right now, here in El Dorado County.  In El Dorado Hills there is a competitive girls’ soccer team called the USA STARS.  They are very small, underfunded, but they have been defeating much larger, well-funded, large club teams from all over California including the Goliath clubs in Southern California.  In fact, they not only won the State Cup this year, this “David” sized soccer team went on to the U.S. Regionals and won the U.S. Far West Regional Championship.  Then, they moved on to Texas and competed in the U.S. National Championship.  They advanced to the semifinal game and tied at the end of regulation and overtime.  Unfortunately, they fell short in the penalty shootout losing by one, one goal short of the National Championship Game.  This STARS team has performed so well that when the new soccer rankings came out in August, they had risen all the way to a ranking of #2 in the United States.  YEA, that’s right, our little ‘ol El Dorado County “David” soccer team taking on the Goliaths of Los Angeles, New York, and the rest of the Nation.

Great story, huh!  But now you’re probably wondering why I’m telling you this.  Well, I’m the grandpa who needs your help.  My two granddaughters, Samm and Drew, through nothing less than grueling hard work and a lot of divine intervention, were placed on this team to fulfill their lifelong dreams….to play college soccer and then to someday become the first twins to ever play on the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and represent their Country in the Olympics.

Attached is a flyer which gives you more information and some internet links for Samm and Drew which you can visit to get my granddaughter’s story in their words and more info on how you can help.  They are in need of immediate help as well as continued support over their almost 3-year journey to earning college soccer scholarships.  I strongly encourage you to read their story, learn about who they are, follow them on their Facebook page, send them encouraging messages, and PLEASE pass their story on to others.  What if their story was spread, what if it went “viral”?  Can we be a part of gathering a massive fan base to support these girls?

Please understand this, I’m sitting across from you as you’re reading this because I’m going to look you in the eye and ask for you and your company to support these hometown girls, my girls.  They have to travel to North Carolina in December to play in the U.S. National League, again to Las Vegas, Seattle and then hopefully to Texas again for the 2017 National Championship.  It seems that when you start acting like a “David”, giant’s rise up to challenge you.  I’m suggesting that rather than standing back and watching to see what these girls do, we instead rally to them and support them, resource them, and participate in helping them slay these Goliaths!!!

So, the story lives on through us and through those we inspire……

Sincerely,
